中国结的介绍（Introduction of Chinese Knot）

        中国结是一种在古时便已有的一种艺术。在古代之时，古人常把中国结佩戴于身上。然而，现今已不如从前。但是，现今许多华族的家里常把中国结挂在家里，作为挂饰。显然，中国结在人们心中的那一份量。

中国结始于先民结绳记事之时。由旧石器时代人们缝衣打结，推展至汉朝的礼仪记事，再演变成今日的装饰手艺。其实，中国结成为一种装饰艺术是始于唐宋时期。之后，到明清人们开始为结命名并赋予丰富的内涵，直到清朝之时才真正流传于民间。中国结有着很好的寓意，样式丰富多彩，每一种样式都有不同的寓意，但都是好的祝愿。中国结里最为特别的是无论是哪一种样式，都由一根线编结而成。

        In ancient times, Chinese Knot was a type of art and it was always being worn as an accessory. However, everything has changed in today’s society. Most of the Chinese families hang the Chinese knots in their house as decorations. This shows that Chinese Knot represents an irreplaceable meaning to Chinese families.

        Chinese Knot began from Chinese ancestors by tying a knot with a rope. From the Palaeolithic age, sewing and knitting clothes was slowly promoted as part of an etiquette in the Han Dynasty, and now had transformed into today’s decorative craftsmanship. In fact, the Chinese knot became a decorative art since the Tang and Song Dynasties. People began to give rich connotations to the Chinese knot in the Ming and Qing dynasties and this art started to widespread since the Qing Dynasty. Chinese Knot represents different meanings which bring good wishes to the people. People will only make Chinese Knot by a single thread  no matter which type of knot.

鉴赏与心得（Art Appraiser and Reflection）

         中国结都有着好的祝愿。我所编织的曼陀罗结一般用于手链和挂饰上。它主要在于调线，一定要均匀的收紧才能编出如花儿般美丽结型。在佛教中它有着特别的寓意，即帮助人们安稳于尘世。此结里美丽的花结型便代表着静心、祈福与驱邪。以粉色的玉线搭配正因为粉色在中国结里代表着平静、聪颖。整体看来有着逆境中绽放的感觉，就像呼唤着人们即使在逆境中也要平静与坚强地等待绽放的到来。 

        第二，吉祥结较常出现于僧人的服装与庙堂的饰物上。由十字结延伸，代表着吉祥、富贵与平安。黄色的玉线象征高贵、祥瑞。古时皇上穿的黄袍便可知晓。故将之搭配黄色。从吉祥的象征来看，相信古时的母亲或妻子都编织此结，祈求孩儿或相公出门时平安吉祥。

        第三，蝴蝶结对我而言是非常漂亮的。由于“蝴”与“福”谐音，它寓意福在眼前，福运迭至。感其若将之佩戴于身，就像“福”不停围绕于身边，我将紫色的玉线搭配于其中，紫色代表着一种幽然，再搭配于蝴蝶结的“福”就像把“福”存在心中。

        第四，二回盘长结。此结最受人们重视，其结体各个方位皆由两个一来一回的回转线组合而成。它寓意着大道吉祥，象征着无始无终、永恒不灭的境界。制作时，来回拉的回转线中我感受到那相依相随的感觉，就像古人那美好的爱情，相依相随地围绕于一条线中。红色在中国结里寓意着美好，黄色象征祥瑞，正符合了二回盘长结，故以红色与黄色搭配。

        制作这四个作品时，感其中国结是那么的神奇，仅以一条绳子，就能结出精美多样的结。从实用的实物，到一种被审美的艺术，好似魔法一样。一边编织，一边赏析其美的当儿，散发出了其艺术美独特的魅力，我深深为此着迷其中。我深信中国结不仅造型优美，色彩多样，亦无形中体现出了文化信仰与浓郁的宗教色彩，有着追求真、善、美的良好愿望。

        Each type of Chinese knot also brings good wishes to people. The Mandala knots are generally used on bracelets and ornaments. It is mainly about adjusting the thread and it must be evenly tightened to make a beautiful knot like a flower. For Buddhism, it has a special meaning which is keeping peace. Therefore, the flower knot represents meditation, prayer and exorcism. I matched the knot with pink jade thread because the pink colour represents peace and intelligence. Overall, it makes people feel the blooming of adversity, it reminds people that we need to be calm and persistent even in adversity. 

        Secondly, “good luck” knots are more often found on monks' clothing and temple decorations. It is extended by the cross knot, representing auspiciousness, wealth and peace. The yellow jade thread symbolizes nobility and auspiciousness. Therefore, I used yellow for this knot. As the symbol of auspicious knot, mothers and wives preferred knitting this knot to pray for the safety of their child or husband auspiciously.

        Third, butterfly knot is my favourite as “butterfly” and “Fu” are homophonic which bring good fortunes. This makes me feel that “Fu” surrounds me everytime. In addition, I paired the purple jade thread with the bow because purple represents a kind of seclusion in the Chinese knot, and the "Fu" with the bow is like keeping "Fu" in my heart.

        Fourth，2-row Pan Chang knot is the most valued knot by people, where its body is composed by two turning lines back and forth. It implies the auspiciousness of the avenue, and symbolizes the realm of no beginning, endless and eternal immortality. While making this knot, as the thread is being drawn back and forth, it shows that both of the ropes are depending on each other. In Chinese Knot, red represents beauty and yellow symbolize auspiciousness, which is in line with the second round long knots. Therefore, I match it with red and yellow.

        While making Chinese knots, I feel their uniqueness as a single thread could create various types of patterns. It’s really amazing like a magic show. The charm of Chinese Knot fascinated me a lot, that’s why I chose this art for my performance. Therefore, I believe that Chinese Knot is not just a beautiful accessory, it also embodies cultural beliefs and strong religious colours invisibly, with good desire and meanings.
