中国山水画，顾名思义是描绘山川自然景色，画中多以山石结构和树木流水为主体，同时包含着中华文化的含义和象征。在中国画当中，山代表着阳刚，水则代表着阴柔；阴柔阳刚；山是实，水是虚；现实与虚构。中国画家以自然山水为现实生活和浪漫艺术产生了结合，虽然山水画不等同于自然，但山水画已经超越了自然，成为有自我意识的艺术作品。中国画家在山水意境、情感等方面的也别有独具匠心。一幅山水画，表面能同时呈现出山石的平静和树木流水的动感，背后隐藏的意境、情感才是让山水画得到升华的重要关键。
Chinese landscape painting is a combination of mountains and rivers, and it is a linkage with the philosophy of Daoism, which emphasizes harmony with the natural world. In Chinese landscape painting, mountains represent masculinity and water represent femininity. Iit brings us to think about reality and fiction in the world. Chinese painters usually bring along the natural landscapes as a combination of real-life and romantic art. Although landscape paintings are not equivalent to nature, art painting has surpassed nature and become self-conscious works of art. A landscape painting can show the peace of mountains and rocks and movement of trees and water at the same time. The hidden artistic conceptions and emotions of the paintings are the important key to judge the landscape painting artworks.
本次鉴赏的画作来自清代的书画家、文学家—— 郑板桥，原名郑燮。郑板桥一生只画兰、竹、石，自称“四时不谢之兰，百节长青之竹，万古不败之石，千秋不变之人”。郑板桥的“瘦劲竹子画”，都是以细竹呈现。他所画的竹子，要么是长得高且瘦、不然就是长在悬崖峭壁之上，给人一种摇摇欲坠的危机之感。而且仔细去观察，郑板桥画的竹最高从不超过五至六节，最矮只有一至二节。郑板桥所画的竹子，象征着君子的风范。即便是在悬崖峭壁，危机四伏之地，竹子依旧能够挺直生长，绝不轻易曲折倒下。
郑板桥的《竹石》是他晚年的画作，也是他绘画技艺成熟的时期。这幅画只出现了竹子和山石，别无旁物，但却能够带出寓意深远的含义。这画幅上三两根瘦劲的竹子，从石缝中挺直生长，坚韧不拔，遇风不倒的形象，说明着郑板桥借竹抒发了自己在贬官后洒脱的心态，同时也表达他勇敢面对现实，绝不屈服于挫折的人品。郑板桥画竹被人格化，印证了“诗是无形画，画是有形诗”的艺术特色。
I am going to appreciate the paintings of Qing Dynasty painter, Zheng Ban Qiao, formerly known as Zheng Xie. Zheng Ban Qiao is a painter who only draws orchids, bamboo, and stones throughout his whole life. He claimed to be a man of honor and started to draw his famous "skinny bamboo paintings". The paintings are all presented with thin bamboo and stone mountains. The bamboos in his paintings are always tall, thin and grow on the cliffs. This gives people a sense of crumbling crisis in their life. If we look closer, we will find that his paintings have the tallest bamboo and never exceed five to six knots. While the shortest bamboo is only one to two knots. We can see the bamboo painted by Zheng Ban Qiao has symbolized the meaning of a gentle and moral man characteristic. Even on cliffs or dangerous places, bamboo can still grow upright and will not easily collapse.
"Bamboo and Rock" (“Zhu Shi”) was Zheng Ban Qiao painting's in his old age when his painting skills were totally experienced and proficient. Zheng Ban Qiao likes to use bamboo to create a natural spirit. With his officialdom experiences, he tries to combine Chinese landscape painting with the freedom mindset and mentality of the arts.
